Leaving aside the post-Unification Wars efforts to rehabilitate Earth, it brought on the first large scale terraforming projects, so the planets chosen were markedly Earth-like, with pre-existing biospheres and similar physical and chemical conditions. It occurred before the public availability of [[IIC]], and, as such, it resulted in colonial governments much more independent from [[Governance]] than those of the [[Second Colonization Wave]].
